How Did Poko Come to Be?
Poko Popcorn was born out of the minds of a small group of friends in a tiny kitchen in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Through hundreds of trials, dozens of taste tests, and more than one afternoon spent in a "popcorn coma" (trust us, it's a thing), we believe we've developed the absolute best gourmet popcorn available. If you're a popcorn aficionado, or even just a casual snacker, we think Poko Popcorn will change your life.
What Makes Us So Special?
All the popping, tumbling and flavouring is done in small batches in each of our stores right in front of your eyes! Our popcorn is freshly popped with hot air - no artificial oils or chemicals here. We then coat each kernel in delicious, hand-crafted flavour using real ingredients, and keep our popcorn toasty warm just for you and your friends. This way, when the popcorn makes it into your hands (and your mouth) it's not only fresh, but warm too! You gotta taste the difference warm popcorn makes. If you're ordering our popcorn online you'll have to take our word for it, but this is a serious game changer.
THE POKO PROCESS
Welcome to Poko. We do things a little differently around here.
We make our popcorn with a superior kernel called Mushroom Popcorn that pops into a perfect spherical shape and captures the flavours that will change your life. And you know those pesky popcorn pieces? The ones that have no real shape and get stuck in your teeth? We hate those too, and Mushroom Popcorn has way less of them. Every single piece is an airy ball of heaven, no duds!
Side note: Mushroom popcorn also makes for much better throw-popcorn-in-the-air-and-catch-it-with-your-mouth games!
Most of the other popcorn guys use processed oils to pop their popcorn. Not us! All of our popcorn is air popped with no oil involved. Which means it's healthier! Which means you can eat more…right?
Like Taylor Swift, we like to shake it off! Each and every batch of our popcorn is shaken over a custom-built, stainless steel grater to get rid of as many unpopped kernels (they're called 'old maids') and hulls as humanly possible. Genius, we know. At least, that's what people say.
Round and round and round and round and… Okay, you get the point. All of our gourmet cheddar flavours are tossed in our fancy, stainless steel tumblers. And all because it looks cool! Just kidding. Tumbling ensures that each and every piece of popcorn is perfectly coated. Plus, it does look pretty cool.
With popcorn this good, you didn't think we would just throw it into a bag and say goodbye did you? We keep our freshly popped popcorn in cozy warming cases so it doesn't cool down. If you've never had the joy of tasting warm popcorn, you are seriously missing out.
